Community Service Opportunity Out of MVUMC

Opportunities Abound!

Each patrol has a yearly goal and obligation to perform at least one service project for an organization in addition to the Service Patrol projects for MVUMC.

Currently, the Kennesaw Mountain Trail Club is readying the park for the 150th commemoration of the Battle of Kennesaw Mountain late this June.  As part of this, they are working on the a new trail.  It is a three mile loop that allows the general public to look at Sherman’s 24-gun battery, which rests, practically untouched, in the woods along Stilesboro Rd. Having had the past two work days cancelled due to weather, the trail club is challenged in its efforts to finish this trail in time for the commemoration.

In addition, there are three scouts preparing Eagle projects to build four foot bridges needed on this new trail.  They will start working in February, but they need many volunteers to help work on these projects.

New trails are a rare Cobb event and these service projects are two opportunities to help the trail club with their project. The trail club will provide tools, gloves, and water, but there is a mile hike into the work site.

Two work days have been scheduled.  These two workdays are a good opportunity for a patrol to help out and to meet their outside service goal. These dates would also count as “conservation service” for certain awards and advancements.

The dates are:

Saturday, February 22nd, 11:30am – 4:00pm and Saturday, March 15th, 8:30am – 12:30pm.

If you have an interest in attending either of these workday service projects, please contact The KMTC Youth Service Administrator Donald Olds at youth@kennesawmountaintrailclub.org with dates and the number of attendees.
