Day Hike – Saturday, April 5

The summer backpacking crew is continuing conditioning for their trek in June.

The next hike as a crew is set for April 5th at the Panther Creek Trail in northeast Georgia. All scouts are welcome to join the crew for this hike. The distance will be between 11 and 13 miles. The hike follows the creek downstream where the crew will encounter some very cool waterfalls, then a gradual uphill hike back. The elevation change is only 900 feet, which is very moderate.

The crew will depart from Mountain View UMC at 7:00 AM.  Bring money (about $10) for a likely meal stop on the way back.  The crew will be back around 6-7 p.m.

Remember: we will travel in Class A uniform and change at the parking area by the trail head.

Be sure to bring your Scout essentials and a trail lunch.

Scouts who are on the summer backpacking crew should bring the pack you plan to use on the June trip. It would be good to see how it works for you on a hike that is a representative length of what the crew will actually be doing in June.  Also, you may want to bring your water purification system to make sure you know how to use it and it is working properly.

Please let Mr. Johnson know if you plan to attend this hike on April 5th.  Adults, also let Mr. Johnson know if you are able to drive and the number of passengers you can accommodate.

Information is available at Backpacker.com

If other members of the Troop wish to join in, please e-mail to Mr. Johnson with your contact info (Scouts and adults invited) if you are interested in this great spring hike!
