Status update and platelet donation information – Genea McNealy

We heard from Rick McNealy this evening and the news is stunningly good. They were able to obtain the O- whole blood that she needed over the weekend and Genea’s condition is much improved. At this point, she is not expected to need more whole blood transfusions but will require continuing infusions of platelets for an indeterminate period of time. The good news about this next step is that platelet donations are possible without regard to blood type match (as was the issue last weekend).

Please see the note below about becoming a platelet donor on Genea’s behalf, click:
Platelet donation information – Genea McNealy

Although platelet donations are not designated for a specific recipient, since Genea will be receiving a significant amount of these infusions over the coming months, Rick asks your continuing support by becoming a platelet donor to help replace the amounts of this precious, life-giving resource that will be used to support Genea. Northside Hospital where Genea is recovering is serviced by Atlanta Blood Services (contact information below) however blood and platelet donations through the American Red Cross also support the life-saving role of blood and platelet therapy for patients in the Atlanta area.

Rick and Genea pass along their thanks to everyone for the outpouring of concern and support, and the gift of the lifesaving blood she received last weekend. Help support her recovery, and that of the many patients in this area needing this lifesaving therapy but donating blood and/or platelets through either of these fine organizations.
