58 years & Counting

Troop 714 is a proud member of the Foothills District within the Atlanta Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America. Founded on May 5, 1966, by Mr. William C. Newton Jr., our troop first partnered with the Vandiver Heights Homeowners Association and held meetings at Mountain View School. Mr. Tom Ogletree, our inaugural Scoutmaster, set the foundation for decades of scouting success.

Historical Milestones

Initially chartered through the Vandiver Heights Homeowners Association, the troop later transitioned to the North Landing Homeowners Association off Trickum Road. In 1987, a significant move brought us to our current home at Mountain View Church under the guidance of Pastor Stuart Green and Scoutmaster Don Dodge. Pastor Green played a crucial role in integrating the troop into the MVC community—a relationship that thrives to this day.

Our first Eagle Scout was honored in 1975. Since then, 174 scouts have achieved this prestigious rank, with the numbers continuing to grow each year.

Troop 714 Today

Today, Troop 714 boasts approximately 60 active members, with continued growth anticipated through the upcoming integration of Cub Scout pack members. Our troop's vitality is a testament to the commitment of over 40 adult leaders who dedicate their time to fostering an environment of learning through respect and fellowship.

Activities and Engagement

Troop 714 meets every Monday at 7 PM, engaging in a variety of activities that emphasize outdoor skills and community service. Our scouts enjoy camping, hiking, backpacking, and canoeing, with events ranging from patrol-specific outings to district and council-wide initiatives. More details about our activities are available on our website. The troop’s first Eagle Scout was recognized in 1975. We can proudly proclaim that last year the troop has now added almost 170 additional Eagles to that roster. The coming years look just as promising!

Community Service

We maintain a strong relationship with our charter organization through various service projects. Current initiatives include participating in the Bethlehem Walk, supporting the MUST Ministries summer lunch program, contributing to the Scouting for Food campaign, and celebrating annual Scout Sunday.
