June SCUBA Trip: Deadlines and other details

Here are some basics for the June Scuba Trip:

We will be traveling to West Palm Beach, Florida. The troop will depart on Sunday, May 31st and return on Saturday, June 6th. Sunday the 31st is a travel day with a stop in St. Augustine for lunch and soak in some history with a visit to a museum. Saturday the 6th is a non-stop trip home. Monday through Friday will be filled with several charter SCUBA dives and a half day of deep sea fishing. The troop will be camping at Jonathan Dickinson State Park. Check out the website to see the activities we can do at the park during our stay (http://www.floridastateparks.org/jonathandickinson/).

The cost for the West Palm trip is approximately $600.

That’s the cost of the trip if you are open water SCUBA certified.  If you are not open water SCUBA certified, there is an additional cost to become SCUBA open water certified.

To become a certified open water SCUBA diver you complete three training components:
  1. Class room
  2. Pool
  3. Check out dives

Items 1 and 2 can be completed locally. The check out dives can be accomplished with a weekend campout. There are two ways to complete the SCUBA open water certification, as a group or on your own. If you choose to complete the SCUBA certification on your own, please let Mr. Sulhoff know. Just sign up for the West Palm portion and we will see you when it’s time to start the trek southward.

If you want to take the classes with the group, this is what you can do:

Sea Ventures in Roswell has a special running to the end of the year.

The cost for Open Water SCUBA certification is $450.

IMPORTANT: a $225 deposit is required to Sea Ventures by 12/31 to take advantage of the open Water SCUBA certification sale.

To pay the deposit, please contact Kim@seaventures.com.

For the certification you get:
  • Course material

Added bonus, where we will be staying, there will be access to sailboats, canoes, and other fun water sports.

Important rules and regulations…..

For Scouts under the age of 15, they must have an adult buddy partner. if this poses a limitation to you, Please contact Mr. Sulhoff to discuss options. Safety is the most important role of an adult in Scouting and with SCUBA there are several more guardrails in place to ensure a safe experience.
